A charming hobo whistler automaton by Karl Griesbaum, dating from the 1950s. The figure leans casually against a lamp post, which illuminates upon activation, while he whistles the classic tune Show Me the Way to Go Home. Beautifully hand-carved in the traditional Black Forest style, the automaton is full of character and features a number of delightful details that reward close inspection. A wonderful example of Griesbaum’s craftsmanship and one of the more distinctive musical automata from the period.
